KSAMC continues efforts to ensure proper disposal of garbage by business operators
Efforts by the Kingston and St. Andrew Municipal Corporation (KSAMC) to ensure proper disposal of garbage by business operators in the downtown area are ongoing.
Mayor of Kingston, Andrew Swaby, notes that during the summer, the KSAMC organized a joint compliance and enforcement drive in the business district.
Partners included the Tax Administration, National Solid Waste Management Authority, NSWMA The Public Health Department, Fire Brigade, and the Police.
The main goal was to ensure that business operators were adhering to standards for the disposal of their garbage.
Mayor Swaby said checks were made to ensure that arrangements were in place with garbage collectors.
He notes that a translator has been hired to ensure that there are no issues communicating with the Chinese business operators who operate in Downtown Kingston.
Meantime, the head of the NSWMA, Audley Gordon says 50% of the business operators are compliant, and a large majority of those who aren’t, are willing to put in place the requirements.
