JTA lawyers preparing response to lawsuit filed by immediate past president La Sonja Harrison over acceptance of Gov’t’s wage offer
The Jamaica Teachers’ Association (JTA) says its lawyers are examining documents relating to the lawsuit recently filed against it in the Supreme Court by its immediate past president, La Sonja Harrison.
Mrs. Harrison is seeking a declaration that the online voting in March 2023 at a special conference to accept the Government’s wage offer is unlawful.
She contends that the vote that took place was not in keeping with the JTA’s Constitution and is seeking a declaration that it is of no legal effect.
When probed for a reaction, the JTA’s current president, Leighton Johnson told IRIE FM news that legal council has been sought.
Mr. Johnson said the JTA will move forward as advised by that council.
Ms. Harrison’s Attorney Hugh Wildman had explained that if his client is successful in getting the declarations sought, then whatever was accepted by the teachers, would have to be reversed.
He said the negotiations would have to reopened.
