JPS says only about 10,000 customers in St. Elizabeth remain without power post Hurricane Beryl
Jamaica Public Service (JPS) President and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Hugh Grant, has indicated that only about 10,000 customers in St. Elizabeth remain without power post Hurricane Beryl.
The entire parish of almost 30,000 residential customers had lost power during the hurricane’s passage on July 3.
The power company has spent recent weeks rebuilding the parish’s power grid which it says was decimated.
The JPS CEO gave an update on those efforts while speaking at a press conference in the parish this morning.
He noted that JPS continues to leverage overseas personnel and equipment in the parish in an effort to ramp up the pace of the restoration.
In recent weeks, residents of several St. Elizabeth communities blocked roads to register their frustration with the pace of power restoration.
While noting that JPS understands the frustration and pain caused by the lack of power, Mr. Grant reiterated that the impact of Beryl was great and will take time to be addressed.
