JPS says it is on track to meet August 12 timeline for full power restoration

The Jamaica Public Service Company (JPS) says it is on track to meet the August 12 deadline for full power restoration, following disruptions caused by the passage of Hurricane Beryl on July 3.

JPS’ Director of Corporate Communications, Winsome Callum provided the update to IRIE FM news yesterday afternoon.

The pace of restoration has been a sore point among many customers, resulting in the Government and the Office of Utilities Regulation (OUR) applying pressure on the JPS to ramp up its efforts.

Last Friday, the OUR indicated that the JPS had missed previously established timelines.

As a result, the OUR said the utility company could be liable to enforcement action if it fails to restore power fully by August 12.

Acknowledging the frustration of customers, Ms. Callum said the JPS is working tirelessly to ensure it meets the deadline.

Ms. Callum noted, however, that the JPS teams will face several challenges in the restoration effort.
