JPS customers may see an increase in their bills if Tropical Storm Melissa passes over Jamaica
Jamaica Public Service (JPS) customers may see an increase in their bills if tropical storm Melissa passes over Jamaica.
President and Chief Executive Officer Hugh Grant says this is because JPS will have to switch to more expensive fuel sources, like diesel.
He says JPS’ supplier of liquefied natural gas has notified that it will be demobilising, which will result in the light and power company, having to switch to a more expensive fuel source.
In the meantime, Mr. Grant said with the smart meter rollout JPS is able to get precise, real-time data on electricity consumption even during a storm.
