Johnson Smith strengthens ties with Dominican Republic
Jamaica and the Dominican Republic (DR) have entered a partnership which promises cooperation across multiple sectors of mutual interest.
Foreign Affairs Minister, Kamina Johnson Smith and her DR counterpart, Roberto Alvarez recently signed the framework agreement.
In a statement, Mrs Johnson Smith said the agreement is part of Jamaica’s efforts to strengthen diplomatic and trade relations with sister nations in the region.
The two Ministers also discussed the need for peace and stability in the region, particularly in Haiti.
Mrs Johnson Smith expressed Jamaica’s concern about the border dispute between Haiti and the Dominican Republic, given the region’s engagement on international efforts to facilitate Haiti’s return to stability.
