Johnson Charles replaces Gudakesh Motie in West Indies Squad for World Cup qualifiers

Explosive St. Lucian batsman Johnson Charles has been named as replacement for Gudakesh Motie in the West Indies 15 man squad for the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup qualifiers to be played in Zimbabwe.

It comes after left-arm spinner Motie  failed to recover from a lower back injury.

Charles recently returned to the Windies squad for the ongoing three match O.D.I series against the United Arab Emirates in Sharjah and was named man of the match for his whirlwind 63 off 47 balls in the second match.

The Windies will arrive in Harare on Friday, ahead of the 10-team tournament where they have been drawn in group ‘A’ alongside hosts Zimbabwe, Nepal, the Netherlands and United States,  whom they face in the opening group fixture on June 18.

The top three from the groups will advance to the super six stage while the two finalists will both progress to the ICC men’s Cricket World Cup 2023.
