JLP and PNP Congratulate Prime Minister Designate of SVG, Dr. Godwin Friday on victory

The leaders of Jamaica’s two main political parties have congratulated Prime Minister Designate of St Vincent and the Grenadines, Dr. Godwin Friday.

Dr. Friday led the National Democratic Party, (NDP) to a victory against the Unity Labour Party, (ULP) in yesterday’s election.

The NDP’s victory ended the ULP’s 24 years in power.

Reports suggest that outgoing Prime Minister Dr. Ralph Gonsalves was the only ULP candidate who retained his seat.

Jamaica’s Prime Minister and leader of the Jamaica Labour Party, J-L-P Dr. Andrew Holness and Opposition Leader and People’s National Party, PNP President Mark Golding have congratulated the NDP and commended Dr. Gonsalves for serving 5 consecutive terms as prime minister.

In an Instagram post Dr. Holness recalled that over the years, Dr. Gonsalves was a strong voice within Caricom, consistently advocating for deeper regional cooperation and a more integrated Caribbean community.

He congratulated Dr. Friday and expressed hope that the new chapter will bring hope, unity and progress for all Vincentians.

And Mr. Golding also extended sincere congratulations to the NDP and Dr. Friday

He also acknowledged the longstanding public service of Dr. Gonsalves, whose leadership he said contributed significantly to regional cooperation and to the strengthening of Caricom’s collective voice on global issues.

In extending congratulations to the incoming administration, Chairman of the J-L-P Communication Task-Force Senator Abka Fitz-Henley said the NDP’s victory showcases Caribbean democratic traditions.
