JFJ reiterates call for wearing of body cameras following killing of 27-year-old Romario Sterling allegedly by police

Jamaicans for Justice (JFJ) has expressed concern about the recent killing of 27-year-old Romario Sterling in Bog Walk, St. Catherine, and the questionable circumstances of his death which was captured on CCTV camera.

The JFJ has renewed its call for the mandatory use of body-worn cameras by law enforcement officers and the provision of all footage to the Independent Commission of Jamaica (INDECOM) and the Inspectorate and Oversight Bureau (IPROB).

In a statement, Executive Director Mickel Jackson said the group took note of the harrowing video, seemingly taken from the surveillance camera at sterling’s home.

The video shows what appears to be a man, with his hands on his head, being instructed to kneel before an explosion is heard.

Jackson said the JFJ is also deeply concerned about the fact that the account of the police officers is vastly different from the residents, particularly regarding the timing and circumstances leading to Mr. Sterling’s death.
