JFJ condemns Chang shoot to kill comment
Rights group Jamaicans For Justice, (JFJ) has condemned the recent statement by security Minister Dr Horace Chang, encouraging police officers to shoot to kill when in confrontation with gunmen.
Dr Chang made the statement recently.
Speaking to Irie Fm news on Monday morning, Executive Director of JFJ Mikel Jackson said the statement by the minister is dangerous and violates democracy.
She said JFJ finds Dr Chang’s statements alarming.
She said the statements should not have been uttered, especially with with an increase in fatal shootings by the police.
Ms Jackson said while she believes that police officers should protect themselves, they should do so within the confines of the law.
