Jamaica’s agricultural production projected to return to pre-Hurricane Beryl levels over the next 4 – 6 months
Agriculture Minister Floyd Green says Jamaica is expected to see agricultural production return to pre-Hurricane Beryl levels within the next four to six months.
Speaking at a media briefing this morning on the status of the agricultural, fisheries and mining sectors, Mr. Green acknowledged that 2024 has been a challenging year for farmers.
He explained that the year began with a drought, which was followed by Hurricane Beryl and weeks of heavy rainfall, resulting in significant losses for farmers and fishers.
Mr. Green noted that the government has intervened by providing resources and supplies to over 30,000 farmers and fishers as part of the recovery efforts.
He said this intervention is expected to stabilize the sectors in the coming weeks.
