Jamaica to face Canada in League ‘A’ quarterfinals of Concacaf Nations League

Jamaica’s Reggae boyz will face Canada in the League ‘A’ quarterfinals of the Concacaf Nations League.

The match-up was set in stone following the completion of play last night in group ‘a’ where Panama blanked Guatemala 3-nil to finish top of the standings on 10 points.

Trinidad and Tobago ended second on 9 after suffering a 5-3 defeat away to Curacao.

Jamaica, meanwhile had earlier cemented top spot in group ‘b’ on Monday after notching a come-from behind 3-2 victory over Haiti to end on 10 points……..3 ahead of second place Honduras who were 4-nil winners over Cuba.

Under the rules, the top two teams from group ‘a’ and ‘b’ will join the four top-ranked league ‘A’ national teams based on the Concacaf rankings which are Mexico, United states, Canada, and Costa Rica.

Mexico as the number one team on the rankings will face Trinidad who are the lowest ranked group runner-up while second ranked United States will play Honduras…..the highest-ranked team to finish second in their group.

It means Canada as the third ranked team will face the reggae boyz who are the lowest ranked group winner with 4th ranked Costa Rica to take on Panama…… the highest-ranked group winner.

The Concacaf Nations league Quarterfinals are scheduled for November and will be played in a home-and-away format.

The winners on aggregate will qualify for the nations league finals scheduled for march 2024 and the Conmebol Copa America to be held in the United States.

The four losing teams in the quarterfinals will still have another chance to qualify for the Copa America via a play-in tournament in March 2024.
