Jamaica saw a record low of six murders last week
Jamaica recorded six murders last week, a feat that has not been achieved since 2001.
The record-low murders during the week of December 22 to 28 contributed to the country recording 73 murders for December, the lowest monthly count since September 2014.
Meanwhile, the official crime statistics for 2024 have indicated that Jamaica recorded a total of 1,139 murders last year.
This represents 265 fewer murders, or a 19% reduction, compared to 2023.
The Ministry of National Security said this success underscores the Jamaica Constabulary Force’s (JCF) commitment to maintaining safety and security.
Portfolio Minister Dr. Horace Chang extended high commendations to the JCF for what he described as its exceptional performance in 2024.
He said its hard work resulted in a significant reduction in murders and one of the safest Christmas seasons the nation has experienced in decades.
Dr. Chang said the government remains steadfast in its commitment to advancing its strategic investment in the JCF, empowering members to build on their success and achieve even greater murder reductions this year.
