Jamaica had over 20 Mpox cases during previous outbreak

Jamaica recorded 21 cases of Mpox, formerly Monkeypox, during the last global outbreak.

Health Minister Dr. Christopher Tufton said the country’s last case of that outbreak was confirmed in March, last year.

He noted that there has been one suspected case since, but further checks revealed it was not the virus.

Speaking at a press conference, this morning Dr. Tufton said surveillance at the island’s ports of entry has been heightened in response to the growing threat of Mpox.

As a result, persons coming into the island from countries where the virus has been confirmed will have to undergo additional screening.
