Jamaica and Japan sign MOU to promote collaboration on disaster risk management, climate change and economic development

Jamaica and Japan have signed a Memorandum of Understanding, which seeks to promote collaboration in various areas, including disaster risk management, climate change, and economic development.

Jamaica inked the partnership, with the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), in Kingston yesterday.

Speaking at the signing ceremony, Finance Minister, Dr. Nigel Clarke, said while Japan is an industrialized country, it has vulnerabilities similar to Jamaica.

Noting that Japan has developed measures to deal with these challenges, Dr. Clarke said it is in Jamaica’s best interest to adopt some of them.

Dr. Clarke noted that Jamaica’s preparation needs to move beyond disaster risk financing.
