Jamaica Alumni Association of High Schools urges alumni groups to contribute to restoring and maintaining peace in schools

The Jamaica Alumni Association of High Schools (JAAHS) is encouraging alumni groups to contribute to restoring and maintaining peace in schools.

This amidst heightened efforts to stem violent altercations among school children.

The past two weeks have been marred by violent incidents involving students.

In St. James, an Irwin High School student was stabbed to death by another, while in the Corporate Area, students of at least 7 schools were involved in a feud, which left one student with stab wounds.

The situation resulted in at least one of the schools closing for two days.

It also prompted the collaboration of several principals in restoring order and peace among the schools.

JAAHS President, Evan Thompson says violence among students is a complex issue, therefore a multi-pronged approach is needed in advancing interventions.

He says alumni members play an integral role in identifying best practices and sharing examples of success.
