Jamaica Agricultural Society President says he expects a decline in production to be reported at the end of the year

President of the Jamaica Agricultural Society (JAS) Lenworth Fulton says he expects that a decline in production will be reported at the end of the year.

Speaking to Irie FM News this afternoon, Mr. Fulton said production in the sector declined by around 11% at the end of the third quarter.

He said he believes the decline will continue at the end of the fourth quarter which ends on December 31.

However, he hopes that growth will return in the first quarter of next year.

Mr. Fulton said this year has been very challenging for farmers due to the bad weather patterns.

He said the major farm areas which produce essential crops were affected.

Meantime, Mr. Fulton is hoping that better plans will be put in place next year in anticipation of inclement weather.
