Jamaica Agricultural Society anticipating support from government for Portland farmers impacted by last week’s flooding

The Jamaica Agricultural Society (JAS) says it is awaiting the official estimates of damage done to farm roads, crops and livestock in Portland, following last week’s heavy rains.

The JAS is anticipating some support from the government.

There was significant flooding in the Rio Grande Valley and other areas of the parish.

JAS president, Lenworth Fulton says the organization is aware of significant losses incurred by farmers and is awaiting the figures being tabulated by officers attached to the Rural Agricultural Development Authority (RADA).

Meanwhile Mr. Fulton said he is confident that the farmers, despite the latest setback, will be back on their feet in the soonest possible time.
