An inmate was fatally stabbed by another at the Tower Street Adult Correctional Centre this morning (June 16).

In a statement, the Department of Correctional Services said that according to an officer at the facility, the two inmates were involved in a physical altercation.

Further reports indicate that the attacker allegedly used an improvised weapon to inflict stab wounds to the right side of his fellow inmate’s abdomen.

The wounded inmate was taken to the Kingston Public Hospital where he was pronounced dead at 10:35 A.M.

The suspect received minor injuries and was treated at the medical unit of the correctional facility.

The Independent Commission of Investigations (INDECOM) and the Jamaica Constabulary Force have been informed.
