Hansle Parchment and Rushell Clayton – The Jamaicans winners at Xiamen Diamond League

Olympic champion Hansle Parchment and World Championships 400 meters hurdles bronze medalist Rushell Clayton were the two Jamaican winners this morning at the Xiamen Diamond League Meeting in China. 

Parchment posted a sizzling 12.96 seconds to win the men’s 110 hurdles, which was a season best and meet record.

The Jamaican who took silver at the  recent World Athletics Championship in Budapest turned the tables on the American Grant Holloway who won gold to claim a third world title. 

American Daniel Roberts was second in 13.03 seconds with Holloway third in 13.12 seconds. 

Clayton meanwhile turned in a scintillating performance to win the women’s 400 meters hurdles., and led home  a Jamaican one -two -three. 

Clayton won in a meet record 53.56, ahead of Andrnete Knight 53.87 and Commonwealth gold medalist Janeive Rusell 54.01 seconds. 

Kishane Thompson was second in the men’s 100 metres in a personal best 9.85 seconds,  behind winner Christian Coleman of the USA in a meet record and joint world leading 9.83 seconds. 

2011 World Champion Yohan Blake was 6th in 10.04 seconds, while national champion Rohan Watson ended 9th in 10.18 seconds. 

Ackeem Blake meanwhile had a forgettable outing after stumbling and falling out of the blocks before getting back up to cross the line a staggering 15 seconds after his peers.

Candice Mcleod was a creditable second place finisher in the women’s 400 metres, clocking a season best 50.19 seconds, behind winner Mariledy Paulino of the Dominican Republic who stopped the clock in a meet record 49.36 seconds. 

In the men’s equivalent national record holder Rusheen Mcdonald finished third after crossing the line in 44.82 seconds, as the event was won by the Grenada Kirani james in a meet record and season best 44.38 seconds. 

The other Jamaican in the event Zandrion Barnes was 8th in 45.29 seconds.
