Ground broken for new police station in St Elizabeth; Security Minister says cops should be provided with purpose-built stations to help with crime-fighting duties
The nation’s police officers deserve to be provided with purpose-built stations from which they can carry out their crime-fighting duties effectively.
That’s according to National Security Minister, Dr. Horace Chang.
He was speaking during the groundbreaking ceremony of the Lacovia Police Station in St Elizabeth yesterday (June 23).
Dr. Chang noted that the $200 million Lacovia Station is not only part of an ongoing process to deal with violence directly, but also to ensure that the police have the necessary tools with which to execute crime prevention strategies.
He explained that some of these measures include outreach programmes for children.
Dr. Chang also noted that the station is another representation of the Government’s commitment to investing in the security forces.
Noting that police officers often risk their lives daily, Dr. Chang said a well-built and organized work environment is crucial.
