Gov’t to pass legislation to increase the fines for illegal and improper disposal of municipal waste
The government will pass legislation this year to increase the fines for illegal and improper disposal of municipal waste and will also table a bill requiring citizens to separate their garbage.
That’s according to Prime Minister Andrew Holness.
Mr. Holness who was delivering his new year’s speech noted that 2023 will be the year, when government begins to work on the total transformation of municipal waste disposal and management.
He said citizens must play a part in this transformation.
Mr. Holness said cabinet has agreed that a policy directive be issued to all government entities requiring them to implement measures to separate their waste.
