Gov’t to make changes to building provisions to ensure new developments are accessible to persons with disabilities

The Government will be making significant changes to the building provisions required to be implemented in infrastructural development to enable greater accessibility for persons with disabilities.

Minister of Labour and Social Security Pearnel Charles Junior says he will soon be making announcements that will change the landscape of how Jamaica integrates access for persons with disability into their infrastructural plans.

He says while the country has improved significantly where that is concerned, it still has much further to go.

Mr Charles Junior’s statement comes as the country observes disability awareness week.

The Minister adds that Government is leading the charge in employing persons with disabilities, while urging the private sector and other stakeholders to get on board.

The Minister was speaking at the disability awareness week national church service yesterday.
