Gov’t begins holding weekly review meetings on new Road Traffic Act

Minister without portfolio in the Office of the Prime Minister, Floyd Green, says the government has begun holding its weekly review meetings, on the changes to the new road traffic act.

The meetings were mandated by Chairman of the National Road Safety Council, Prime Minister Andrew Holness, following public outcry about some aspects of the act, when it came into effect on February 1.

The requirement for all motorists to have a child restraint system in place, was one of the issues raised by citizens, especially taxi operators.

Speaking at a defensive driving workshop yesterday, Mr. Green noted that the meetings are being held to hear the opinions of the people.

Mr. Green said a robust public education campaign will take place over the next three months.
