Gov’t announces $50M reward fund for residents who provide information on gang activities

The government has established a 50-million-dollar fund to offer rewards to residents who provide information on gang activities in the country.

Prime Minister Andrew Holness made the announcement while speaking at a handing over ceremony for two housing units, in Seville Heights, St. Ann, this afternoon (December 19).

According to the Prime Minister the police have received intel which indicates that several gangs across the country plan on targeting supermarkets over the course of the holiday.

Prime Minister Holness urged residents who might know these wrongdoers to report them to the police and receive a reward.

Mr. Holness said such reports will be to the detriment of criminals in the country.

He said these criminals have family members and friends who know of their actions but choose to be quiet.

Prime Minister Holness said these criminals are depriving residents of their rights and freedom, and law-abiding citizens should stand against it.

Mr. Holness said police are also seeking information about lottery scammers who are targeting locals.
