Gov’t acknowledges need for intervention to stem violence against youth

On the heels of several recent violent incidents involving children, the Education Ministry has acknowledged that violence against, and involving, the youth needs immediate intervention.

Director of Safety and Security in schools, Richard Troupe, made the statement while delivering a message on behalf of portfolio minister Fayval Williams at a youth violence prevention conference yesterday.

Mr. Troupe noted that the nation is still shocked at the brutal murder of 8 year old Danielle Rowe.

He said the constant exposure to violence has profound psychological effects on young people.

He added that the Ministry continues to implement measures to stem violence in schools.
