Government to undertake multi-million dollar water supply project for western parishes

The Government is to undertake a multi million dollar water supply project for western parishes, as part of the response to the impact of the ongoing drought.

Prime Minister Andrew Holness told Parliament yesterday that the government has heard the cries of affected residents, especially those in Negril, Westmoreland, and is taking steps to address their concerns.

He noted that progress has been made, with some short term measures already implemented in the affected areas.

Mr. Holness announced that Cabinet has approved a design and build contract with Vinci Construction Grand for two projects, as part of the western water resilience programme.

The first project to be implemented, as part of this programme, will be the installation and replacement of main transmission pipelines, in Trelawny, St. James, and Westmoreland.
