Government engages boutique ships, as part of plans to build Port Royal as a major tourist destination

The Government is working on arrangements with boutique ships as part of plans to build up Port Royal, as a major tourist destination.

Tourism Minister Edmund Bartlett gave the update during a post-Cabinet press briefing this morning.

He was questioned about the progress of tourism development in the town.

The Government has long committed to developing the seaside town into a cruise-shipping hub but some residents are concerned that the pace of investment is too slow.

In response, Mr. Bartlett said Port Royal’s location on the southern side of the island has created challenges in securing cruise itineraries.

He noted, however, that steps are being taken to address this.
