Governing JLP dissatisfied with JPS’ explanation for the recent hike in electricity bills
The governing Jamaica Labour Party (JLP) has expressed dissatisfaction with the explanation given by the Jamaica Public Service (JPS) for the recent hike in electricity bills.
Yesterday JPS said the major increases being seen by customers were due to the devaluation of the Jamaican dollar and a switch to more expensive fuel.
Finance Minister Dr. Nigel Clarke said the statement from JPS was misleading and the power company presented incomplete information to the public.
He noted that JPS had received a waiver of the Special Consumption Tax (SCT) on automative diesel oil for electricity generation or an application of the concessionary rate of $4.60 per litre for July.
Meantime, JLP Spokesperson, Kerensia Morrison said JPS must roll back the major increases, immediately.
