Golding says he is in no rush to renounce United Kingdom citizenship

Leader of the opposition People’s National Party, PNP, Mark Golding says he is in no rush to renounce his United Kingdom citizenship.

His statement comes amid calls from government officials for him to demonstrate his loyalty to Jamaica by renouncing his UK citizenship.

The latest call was made by Water Minister Matthew Samuda who is also a british citizen.

In a statement yesterday, Mr. Samuda said he has started the process of renouncing his UK citizenship and urged Mr Golding to do the same.

Speaking on a podcast last evening, Mr. Golding said he is not in breach of Jamaica’s constitution.

He said he will not make a hasty decision on a matter of principle.
