Fifty-one murders were recorded in Jamaica up to Saturday, February 7 – a 40 per cent reduction compared to last year.
This is 34 fewer than the 85 recorded during a similar period last year.
St. Andrew South recorded the highest number of murders with 9, followed by St. James with 7.
Hanover, St. Ann and Manchester recorded 4 murders each.
Trelawny, St. Mary, Portland, Kingston eastern, St. Catherine south and St. Thomas each recorded 1 murder.
Two divisions have not recorded any murders in 2026.
The Jamaica Constabulary Force is also reporting that shootings declined by 38.4 per cent, from 86 in 2025 to 33 in 2026.
There has been a decline in cases of rape from 37 last year to 22 this year.
