Family in Spalding, Clarendon counts losses after fire destroyed home this morning

A family in Zinc Shop, Spalding in Clarendon is counting their losses after fire destroyed their two-story home this morning.

Reports are that at about 7 AM, the occupants were alerted to smoke coming from a lower section of the building.

The occupants – 3 adults and 2 children – reportedly ran to safety when they saw the flames. They were unable to save any of their possessions.

One neighbour spoke to IRIE FM news about the fire and about one of the occupants who works in the medical field.

She also noted that despite appealing for assistance, not enough residents came forward to help the family put out the fire.

She called on residents to support each other in times of distress.

Two units from the Christiana and Mandeville fire stations assisted with cooling down operations.

The loss is estimated at $18 million.

The Spaldings police are conducting investigations.
