The European Union, EU is allocating an additional 1.2 million Euros to support a Red Cross response in Cuba and Jamaica, following the passage of Hurricane Melissa in October, which caused significant damage to both countries.

European Commissioner of Humanitarian Aid and Crisis Management Hadja Lahbib made the announcement at a brief meeting with Minister of Efficiency Audrey Marks at Jamaica House in Kingston, this afternoon.

Ms. Lahbib noted that this is in addition to the 5 million euros already donated by the EU to the region. 

She underscored that Europe will continue to work closely with the relevant stakeholders to offer relief to families in need.
