Energy Ministry and OUR to meet with JPS regarding estimated bills
Energy Minister Daryl Vaz and representatives from the Office of Utilities Regulation, OUR, are to meet with the Jamaica Public Service, JPS next week regarding the estimating of bills for this month.
JPS has informed customers that bills for June to July may be estimated, due to disruptions caused by Hurricane Beryl.
It said there are challenges carrying out actual meter readings manually and remotely and so customers may receive estimated bills based on the last 3 actual readings.
However, many customers have taken issue with this announcement.
Noting the concerns, Mr. Vaz described JPS’ announcement as “a bit insensitive”.
He pointed out that many customers are still without power following Beryl’s passage.
Mr. Vaz said he will monitor the situation to ensure equity and justice for JPS customers.
