Elaine’s Pain! Olympic three peat quest derailed by injury.

Reigning sprint double double Olympic champion Elaine Thompson-Herah, has pulled out of the 100 meters at this weekend’s National Athletics Championships at the National Stadium, paving the way for a new champion to be crowned at the Paris Olympics next month.

She had initially announced that she would not compete in the 200 meters and was entered only for the 100 meters at the Championship – However, she be missing totally from the four day event starting on Thursday.

Thompson-Herah has only competed only twice this season running times of 11.30 seconds and 11.48 seconds over 100 metres.

She appeared to suffer an injury in her last race at the New York City Grand Prix on June 9, and had to be lifted off the track following the race and was later seen icing her foot.

Reports indicated that the five time Olympic champion travelled to Germany shortly thereafter to receive treatment.

Thompson-Herah, who won the 100 meters and 200 meters titles at both the 2016 Rio Olympics and the 2020 Tokyo Games in 2021, was bidding to become only the second person to win sprint double titles at three Olympic Games, joining fellow Jamaican Usain Bolt.

In a social media post on Wednesday night, Thompson Herah simply wrote: Quote “I will be back” end of quote.
