Eight people died in crashes over the Easter weekend

Eight people were killed in road crashes over the long Easter holiday.

 

Their deaths pushed the number of road fatalities recorded since the start of the year to 119.

 

One of the collisions occurred on the Discovery Bay main road, in St. Ann, last evening.

 

Dead is 51-year-old Valerie Daley, of Duncan’s, Trelawny.

 

Reports from the Discovery Bay police are that about 6:00 PM, Ms. Daley was driving a Toyota Mark X motorcar, when it’s reported that she failed to keep left, and drifted to the right of the roadway, colliding with a white Toyota motorcar.

 

She was pronounced dead at hospital.

 

Vice Chairman of the National Road Safety Council, Dr. Lucien Jones, has expressed concern about the number of fatal crashes.

 

 

He told IRIE FM News, that Chairman of the council, Prime Minister Andrew Holness has called a meeting for Thursday April 20 to discuss road safety related matters.
