Efforts being made to get Supreme Court matters settled within 2 years
Efforts are being made to get matters that are brought to the Supreme Court, settled within a 2 year period.
That’s according to Chief Justice, Bryan Sykes who was speaking during a court of appeal swearing-in ceremony at King’s House, on Monday.
He said over the past 5 years, the supreme court heard 13, 420 cases per year and only disposed of 8,765, each year.
Justice Sykes also noted that research has shown that 70 per cent of cases brought before the Supreme Court will not be settled within a 2 year period.
He said this needs to be addressed and as such, steps are being taken.
He said the steps being taken include a review of the processes of the judiciary.
Justice Sykes said reviews have shown that the mandatory mediation method is not working and is contributing to the backlog.
