Member of Parliament for St. Catherine West Central Dr. Christopher Tufton is calling for a review of the laws relating to voter intent. 

The call follows a magisterial recount in the Ginger Ridge division within his constituency.

The recount was carried out by the St. Catherine Parish Court.

At the end, the People’s National Party candidate Ralston Wilson, was declared the winner against the Jamaica Labour Party’s Jeremiah Edwards.

Wilson won by 7 votes.

Following the recount, Dr. Tufton said he would challenge the results in the Supreme Court.

This, as he outlined a number of issues with the recount process, including unsealed envelopes, confusion regarding the keys used to open some ballot boxes, and discrepancies in ballot markings. 

Dr. Tufton said these issues compromised the integrity of the electoral process.

The MP said the Electoral Office must look into the matter.
