Dr. Chang not anticipating wave of Haitian migrants
Despite the arrival of 37 Haitians in July, National Security Minister, Dr Horace Chang, says he is not anticipating a wave of migrants from crisis-plagued Haiti.
The Haitian group, which landed in Portland to flee social and political unrest in their homeland is being housed at a facility, in Robins Bay, St Mary.
When probed by reporters at the facility today (August 14) about whether there were concerns that the group would be the first of many to flee to Jamaica, Dr Chang said he was not worried.
He said so far, Haitians have been heading to other countries.
Dr Chang noted that all 37 Haitians have been identified.
He also sought to quash concern over whether or not robust mechanisms are in place to ensure effective monitoring of the Haitians at the Robins Bay facility.
