Discussions to continue on plea deal for 21yo university student, Matthew Hyde

Discussions are to continue on a plea deal for 21-year-old university student, Matthew Hyde who is charged with assaulting and torturing his ex-girlfriend in a dorm room.

Hyde, who appeared in court today, has been remanded in prison until his reappearance in the Home Circuit Court on July 24.

The court was informed that during the adjournment, defence lawyers and prosecutors will continue plea deal discussions under the Plea Deal Negotiations Act.

All the relevant documents in the case, including the psychiatric evaluation and social enquiry reports have been handed over to the defence.

Hyde is charged with assault occasioning grievous bodily harm, use of malicious communication and false imprisonment.

This, following reports that he allegedly held his ex-girlfriend captive for three days in his room at the University of the West Indies, Mona.

The woman was allegedly tortured with a hot clothing iron and other implements from February 6 to February 9 last year.
