Dancehall artiste Vybz Kartel, and his 3 co-appellants, will know by June if the court will grant them a retrial.

This as, the hearing to determine if a retrial in the case should be held, has been set for June 10 to 15.

The update was issued by the Court of Appeal today.

The court indicated that the appellants are to file and serve skeleton submissions with the authorities, on or before May 6.

While the respondents should file and serve skeleton arguments, on or before May 31.

The appellants skeleton arguments must be accompanied by a written chronology of events relevant to the appeal and cross referenced to the record or transcript.

The appellants are also to agree and file one joint chronology of events.

Four copies of the skeleton arguments and chronology must be filed for use by the court.

Kartel, whose given name is Adidja Palmer, along with Shawn Campbell, Kahira Jones and Andre St. John, are seeking to overturn their murder convictions.

They were convicted for the 2011 murder of Clive “Lizard” Williams.

An attempt to have the conviction overturned in 2018 was dismissed by the Court of Appeal in Jamaica.

Following the dismissal the men took the matter to the United Kingdom based Privy Council.

Last month, the Privy Council quashed the convictions on the grounds of juror misconduct, and also sent the case back to the Jamaican court for a determination on retrial.

The lawyers representing the 4 men have pointed out that a retrial would be difficult and have stated their intention to seek bail.
