Custos calls on parents to intervene if they observe suicidal tendencies in children

Custos of Manchester, Garfield Green, has called on parents and guardians, as well as school guidance counsellors to do more interventions, if they observe suicidal signs in children.

His appeal follows the death of a teen girl who had reportedly ingested a poisonous substance.

Dead is 14-year-old Athena Williams, of Bottom Coffee Grove, in Porus.

Reports are that on Sunday (April 16), Athena’s mother and grandmother heard strange noises coming from her bedroom, and when checks were made, they discovered that the girl had drunk vehicle coolant.

Athena was rushed to hospital and admitted in serious condition. She succumbed on Tuesday.

The Manchester police are investigating.

Reacting to the incident, Custos Green noted that oftentimes, children who are depressed or withdrawn, do not get adequate attention and love.
