Court orders former Senior Official at NESoL, Lawrence Pommels, to forfeit over $40M and several vehicles
Former Senior Official at the National Energy Solutions Limited (NESoL), Lawrence Pommels, has been ordered by the court to forfeit over (JMD) $40m and several motor vehicles.
The Financial Investigations Division (FID) secured the forfeiture order for (JMD) $36.29m and (USD) $4800 in cash, just over (JMD) 3m in cash in a savings account at a local bank and just under (JMD) 1m in cash held at a local credit union from the sale of a 2014 Mercedes Benz motor car.
The court also ordered the forfeiture of three motor vehicles – a 2009 Honda Accord, a 2014 Audi Q-7 and a 2016 BMW X6.
Pommels was sentenced in May, to nine months imprisonment.
He had pleaded guilty to two counts of corruption and six counts of possession of criminal property.
FID Principal Director of investigations Keith Darien notes that Pommels’ conviction was the culmination of years of investigation, across several agencies.
The investigation revealed significant violations of government procurement guidelines and severe mismanagement of public funds at NESoL.
