Classes in full swing following severe weather

Classes are in full swing across the island today, following last Friday’s closure of schools due to severe weather.

Schools were ordered closed due to heavy rain impacting the island.

Several parishes including St Andrew, Portland and St Thomas reported flooding.

Speaking to Irie Fm news Monday morning, President of the Jamaica Teachers’ Association, Leighton Johnson said reports so far suggest that all is well.

He urged school administrators to exercise extreme caution and to do what is necessary to ensure the safety of students.

Meantime, Mayor of Morant Bay Hubert Williams said he has not received any report of a school remaining closed.

He said while some public transport vehicles have opted to avoid some parochial roads which were impacted by flooding, students still had access to transportation along the main road.
