City of Madrid to host 2024 Laureus World Sports Awards

The Spanish capital Madrid has been announced as host city for the 2024 Edition of the prestigious Laureus World Sports Awards.

The event now in its 25th year is scheduled to take place on april 22 and will honour the best athletes and teams of 2023 …………and will also feature the Laureus Sport for good award, which recognizes an individual or organization that has made a significant contribution to transforming the lives of children and young people through sport.

Nominees will be announced on February 26 in seven categories following a vote by journalists from the world’s leading media.

The winners will be selected by the 69 members of the Laureus World Sports Academy.

Jamaican sprinter Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce was last year named the laureus sportswoman of the year at the awards held in Paris …..after successfully defending her women’s world 100 metre title in Eugene, Oregon while Argentina’s fifa World CUup-winning captain Lionel Messi won the male equivalent.

Other Jamaican winners of the Laureus Award include Usain Bolt and Elaine Thompson-Herah.
