Chris Gayle and Andre Russell among marquee players for global T/20 Canada Tournament

Jamaica’s cricketing stars Chris Gayle and Andre Russell are among some of the marquee players named in the draft for the 2023 edition of the global T20 Canada.

The competition will be making a return after an absence of four years.

The third edition of the league will bowl off July 20 and conclude on August 

6 in Ontario.

Gayle, will suit up for Mississauga Panthers and will be joined by the likes of Shoaib Malik, James Neesham and Cameron Delport.

Russell meanwhile, has signed to play for Montreal Tigers and will play alongside Shakib al Hasan, Sherfane Rutherford, Carlos Brathwaite and Zahir Khan.

The list of teams in the global T20 Canada is completed by Surrey Tigers,  Brampton Wolves, Vancouver Knights and Toronto nationals.

Each squad consists of 16 players from Full and ICC Associate Member Nations. These squads include six international players including two marquee stars, four players from Associate Nations and six Canadians. The tournament also revealed Head Coaches of each franchise who were part of the player draft on Tuesday.

Following the announcement of the marquee players, the player draft to pick the full squad for each franchise began with Full Member Nation round. Held in 6 rounds where each round had its own reserve price starting from $70,000 going down to $8,500 for Canadian U-19 cricketers, the draft witnessed some anxious moments with franchises making their picks backed by solid home work.
