Bust of late NIS founder Lynden Newland unveiled today

A bust was today unveiled at the Ministry of Labour and Social Security in honour of the late founder of the National Insurance Scheme (NIS), Lynden Newland.

Mr. Newland served as the Minister of Labour and National Insurance from 1962 to 1972.

His bust, which is a Jamaica 60 legacy project, was unveiled as part of this year’s workers week celebrations.

Speaking at the unveiling ceremony this morning, Portfolio Minister, Pearnel Charles Jr said the bust will serve as a reminder of the profound impact of public service.

Meanwhile, Permanent Secretary in the Ministry, Colette Roberts Risden reaffirmed the Ministry’s commitment to continue Mr. Newland’s legacy by enhancing the NIS scheme.
