Bunting questions distribution of cheques under Rebuild Jamaica Initiative
Opposition Senator Peter Bunting has raised questions about the number of Jamaicans who have received assistance from the government under the Rebuild Jamaica Initiative.
The questions follow a report from the Social Security Ministry, which indicated that 82% of households that suffered damage from Hurricane Beryl had received reconstruction cheques.
The ministry said more than 6, 800 cheques valued at 608 million dollars were delivered to beneficiaries in all parishes up to October 15.
However, speaking at a People’s National Party (PNP) candidate presentation in Southeast St. Elizabeth at the weekend, Mr. Bunting said his checks with party representatives do not reflect that the majority of residents have received assistance.
Mr. Bunting questioned if the assistance was being given to those who really need it.
