Teachers’ Association says it is awaiting outcome of investigations into allegations against Tacky High School principal, Errol Bascoe

The Jamaica Teachers’ Association (JTA) says it is awaiting the verdict of the courts regarding an allegation levied against Tacky High School principal, Errol Bascoe.

In a letter addressed to Leader of the People’s National Party (PNP) Mark Golding late Friday, Mr. Bascoe announced his resignation as the Party’s provisional Member of Parliament for Western St. Mary.

Describing the accusation as malicious, Mr. Bascoe said he was innocent and was confident the truth would prevail in due course.

This, however, has not prevented Generation 2000, the Young Professional Affiliate of the Jamaica Labour Party from calling for his resignation as principal of the St. Mary-based high school.

In a statement yesterday, Generation 2000 said it is deeply troubling that Mr. Bascoe while prioritizing the reputation of the PNP, has failed to extend the same level of concern for the reputation and well-being of Tacky High.

When asked for a reaction, JTA President, Leighton Johnson told IRIE FM News that the Association will allow the country’s legal process to take its course.

The St. Mary police have confirmed that they have launched a probe into the matter.
