Mayor of Kingston Andrew Swaby has commended Africans and persons of African descent for their strength and resilience through decades of adversity.

He was speaking today at the Africa Day celebration in Kingston, being held under the theme “Africa rising: rekindling our African heritage.”

This year’s celebration was in the form of a pop up village inside St. William Grant Park, and featured displays showcasing African food, artefacts, dance classes, drumming, storytelling and food tasting.

There was also a civic ceremony with live entertainment, as well as remarks from government officials and members of the diplomatic corps.
